My personal notes for Hierarchy of SaaS Skills

From Startups for the Rest of Us, a podcast by Rob Walling

Robs four skills for starting a SaaS company are (in order):

  1. Marketing/sales: Which one depends on low touch vs. high touch
  2. Product: product development and design (what should you build?)
  3. Engineering: Writing and protecting g the code (how should you build it?)
  4. Hiring and managing: Hiring good employees and managing them well so they don’t leave

In other words, market first, product last. Nothing happens until you get someone to pay you.
